On Sunday, December 29, 2013, the congregation of the Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Stone Mountain,GA elected me to be their new pastor. I moved to the Atlanta area on Thursday, January 2, 2014 and am having a wonderful time. My wife will join me, full-time, by June 1. Our collegian son will not ever move here full-time, but will certainly visit from time to time. In the 1980s I was privileged to pastor the Bethany Baptist Church in Pittsburgh,PA. 1980-1988 were eight of the richest years of my life. I left that church and went into college ministry. There was always a part of me that wanted to return to being a pastor. While Papa God uses the itinerant preacher/musician, it is difficult to top the post of pastor. In that role, I walked with families and individuals through some of their most poignant episodes. I performed weddings, dedicated infants, baptized believers, buried the dead and counseled the grieving, the inquirers and the confused. Now, in the Atlanta area, I am going to do it again.
This week I have been in my office at the church building, planning worship, preparing sermons and thinking about what is ahead for the people called Crossroads Presbyterian Church.I shall keep you, dear reader, apprised of what is ahead for Team Farmer. Might I become a Georgia Peach?
