Here we are in the motnh of August already. Where has the time gone? It seems that only yesterday we were ringing in the New Year. This former Texan was making preparation to fly to Atlanta, to take up this post.

Seven months have flown by.

This is the month in which no major holiday is observed. In January we have New Year’s Day and Martin Luther King’s birthday. In February, we observe Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day and President’s Day. March brings us St. Patrick’s Day. In April we observe Earth Day and Arbor Day. May finds us celebrating Mother’s Day. June gives us Flag Day and Father’s Day. In July we celebrate our nation’s independence on the 4th. September has Labor Day. October has Columbus Day. November gives us Thanksgiving Day and December offers Christmas Day.

If you consult some web sites devoted to listing every national “day” there is(, for August you will read of :

National Watermelon Day (3)

Left Hander’s Day (10)

National Marshmallow Toasting Day (30).

Clearly, we have run out of ideas. J-

Rather than finding some quirky celebration to hold, let’s enjoy every day as a gift from Papa, who causes the sun to shine and the wind to blow.

Glad the tomb is empty,
